The first step in obtaining land was to obtain a warrant. Person applied for a certain number of acres from the Crown or the State which was then presented to the County Surveyor or Deputy Surveyor. Records were checked for vacant land and a Certificate of Survey was completed. Records were then sent to the Land Office for review and patent was issued to the owner. Ownership transfers at this time.
