Mary Anna Town was located in the area of present day North Cleveland Avenue and Jefferson Street bordering on the eastside of Hagerstown. Mary Anna Town origins begin when Martin Harry obtained the tract Grogg (54 acres) from Henry Fry in 1768 (Fr. Co. Deed L-291). In 1771 Martin Harry had a resurvey done on the tract Grogg and increased the number of acres to 76.5 (Fr. Co. Patent #1748). In 1774 the land was deeded over to Jonathan Hagar & Conrad Hogmire (Fr. Co. Deed BD 1-177). Martin Harry obtained the land back in 1778 (Wa. Co. Deed A-391). In 1784 lots for Mary Anna Town were being sold with the lots measuring 82’ x 240’. The plat for Mary Anna Town hasn’t been located which covers 106 lots.
