Maryland land records are composed of warrants, patents, certificates of survey and deeds. Warrants show an individual applying for a certain number of acres to be surveyed. Patent record books, which state the written courses of the property are not available online, one has to visit the Maryland State Archives. Certificates of Survey which are plat drawings of the property are online, but do not cover all patents. Online availability of Certificates of Survey and deed records for the state is excellent.
Note: Some records may be missing due to courthouse fires, never recorded or lost.
